The other cycle. The year comes back around; a life only goes one direction.

Birth and naming. Ordination. Marriage. A new house. Death. The hundred days after. Each of these is a crossing, and Lao tradition treats a crossing as the dangerous part — the moment when a person is between two states and needs to be gathered, named, and settled into the next one.

Khong Sip Si is here too. It isn't a ceremony; it's the fourteen ways a person is expected to conduct themselves through all of it.
